‘Wise men who will pull their students’ hearts to follow them’. Letter by the Gaon Rabbi Avraham Zvi Kamai to the committee of ‘Chorev’, a network of Chareidi Talmudei Torah in Lithuania, in an effort to obtain G-d fearing and pious teachers for religious and non-religious studies.
A peek at the efforts of the Gaon Rabbi Avraham Zvi Kamai for the future of the Jewish children of Lithuania and the obstacles put by the Polish law that required certain titles and terms from teachers and principlas.
The great Gaon Rabbi Avraham Zvi is looking for a Hebrew teacher instead of Rabbi Aronson, who was leaving his position and teacher for Polish who is qualified to ‘manage a school’, apparently as the law requires, and asks that these teachers be ‘wise and disciplined men who will pull their students’ hearts to follow them’. He also asks what they will charge for six hours of teaching andwhether the burdening Polish law regarding the required conditions from teachers for religious studies has been rejected or is about to come into force.
The great Gaon Rabbi Avraham Zvi Kamai [1860-1942] the last Rav of Mir and the Rosh Yeshiva there, the son of the Gaon Rabbi Eliyahu Baruch, the Rav of Mir. A great Gaon in Torah and Yirah.
