Letter of gratitude handwritten and signed netirely by Maran Posek Hador the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv, to an activist who worked for strengthening the Kashrus in the center of Jerusalem. Cheshvan 1975.
It is rare to find Maran the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv addressing public affairs in those years. Practically all of his public work as one of the leaders of the generation started after the establishment of the ‘Degel HaTorah’ party by Maran the Gaon Rabbi Elazar Menachem Shach, who pleaded with him to join the leadership of Bnei HaTorah.
The letter was sent to the renowned activist Rabbi Menachem Porush, one of the leaders of Agudas Yisroel and one of the greatest activists of Chareidi Jewry, who worked for basing and strengthening the Kashrus of the Machaneh Yehuda market ‘the most central site in the holy city of Jerusalem‘, to quote Maran the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv.
‘I thank his honor for working diligently for the above‘. Then Rabbi Elyashiv adds his blessing to those who assist and his hope that it will be realized with no delays.
