Letter by Rabbi David Zvi Hoffman, the head of the Beis Midrash for rabbis in Berlin, one of the leaders of Orthodox Jewry in Germany and one of the fouders of Agudas Yisroel. Handwritten and signed by him. Berlin, [1904].

The Rav Dr. David Zvi Hoffman (1843-1921) a disciple of the Maharam Schik, Rabbi Azriel Hildesheimer and the Kesav Sofer. One of the leaders of German Jewry, a Talmud scholar, Posek, and since 1899 the head of the Beis Midrash for rabbis in Berlin. Was famed for his commentary on the Torah, fighting against Bible criticism while using scientific tools. When Agudas Yisroel was founded, he was appointed a member of the first Moetzes Gedolei HaTora of worldwide Agudas Yisroel.
Reb Shlomo Buber (1827-1906) a scholar, a descendant of a family of rabbis from Lvov, who published a scientific, proofread edition of Midrashim and Aggados from the time of the Talmud and onward. Alongside this substantial literary project, he served as member of the presidency of the Jewish community of Lvov. He published articles, while working as a senior banker and was a member of the board of directors of the Austro-Hungarian Bank and as the chairman of the Chamber of Commerce of his city. His grandson , the scholar and philosopher Matin Buber, grew up in his home.
