Rabbi [Yisroel] Yaakov Hagiz (1620-1674) Gedol Yisroel in his generation, worked for the Jewish Settlement in Eretz Yisroel. Was born in Morocco to a family of Spanish exiles. In his youth, he moved to Italy, there he lived in the communities of Verona and Livorno. He immigrated to Jerusalem, there he married the daughter of Rabbi Moshe Galante – HaRav Hamagen. He headed the Beis Midrash of the Beis Yaakov Yeshiva and taught Torah to many students. He fought the false Messiah Shabtai Zvi, a battle that was continued by his son Rabbi Moshe Hagiz (the Meniach). His renowned Sefer is Shut Halachos Ketanos. His grandson, Rabbi Raphael Meyuchas, was the Rishon LeZion.
