Letter sent by the Chassid Rabbi Sholom Shachneh Halevi Ish Horowitz the leader and supervisor of Kollel Chabad in Tiberius to his brother’s son the renowned Tzaddik Rav Rabbi Yeshaya Halevi Horowitz of Safed about the pedigree of their family. Tiberius, 1929.
Appearing in the letter is the genealogy of the family to Rabbeinu the holy Shelah, referring to the Tzaddikim the holy Rav the Admor Hazaken Ba’al HaTanya, the great Rabbi Aharon of Karlin, Rabbi Chaim Chaikel of Amdora, Rabbi Asher of Stolin, and additional Tzaddikim.
This letter was an important source of one of the chapters of Sefer Eden Zion authored by the addressee of the letter, Rabbi Yeshaya Horowitz of Safed, the father of the renowned Breslov Saraf Rabbi Shmuel Horowitz. The letter constitutes an important source for the pedigree of the family.
The Tzaddik Rav the Chassid Rabbi Sholom Shachneh Horowitz of Tiberius, the supervisor of Kollel Chabad of Tiberius. Was educated by his grandfather who followed the instructions of the holy Rav the Admor Hazaken Ba’al HaTanya and other Tzaddikim.
The Gaon Rabbi Yeshaya halevi Horowitz [1883-1978] was born in Safed to his father the Tzaddik Rav Rabbi Asher yechezkel the supervisor of Kollel Chabad of Safed who tried to establish a Chabad Yeshiva there. A direct descendant of the holy Shelah. Rav of the Chabad community and Kollel of Safed during the years 1909-1924 and a member of the Beis Din of the Ridbaz. In 1924, he moved to the USA, where he was Rav of Chabad Chassidim there. Eventually, he became the Rav of the communities of Winnipeg, Canada and at the end of his days, returned to the Holy Land. His renowned son is the Chassid Rabbi Shmuel Horowitz of Breslov.
