The Gaon Rabbi Meir ben Rabbi Yaakov Schiff, the Maharam Schiff (1605-1941), one of the greatest commentators of the Shas. Rosh Yeshiva and Rav in Ashkenaz. Was famed for his sharpness and Pilpul. Authored many compositions on Talmud, Halacha and Kabbalah; yet most of them were lost. Wrote a summary of every lesson on the Talmud which he delivered to the students of the yeshiva and their remnants are these Chidushim (titled Chidushei Maharam Schiff) on part of 11 tractates of the Bavli Talmud, which today are printed in the common editions of the Bavli.
Rabb Mordechai Mardosh (1740-1816) was born to his father Rabbi Hillel in Zholkva. Was a disciple of Rabbi Naftali Hirtz the son of the author of Or Yekaros and a leading Chassid of the Admor Rabbi Mordechai of Neshchiz. A great Gaon who for several years served as Rav and Rosh Yehiva in Brody and later as Rav and Rosh Yeshiva in Poritzk. In 1810, published the Chidushei Maharam Schiff with his glosses and elucidations, which he edited with his friend ‘Noah of Lodmir, who was born in Kremnitz’ [his words as they appear in the introduction].
The Gaon Rabbi Shmuel Naftali Ganger (1926-2016) the Rosh Yeshiva of Sanz-Kloizenburg in Israel and the USA, followed his rabbis the Shefa Chaim of Sanz and his son the Admor of Sanz-Kloizenburg.
Rabbi Yehuda Yitzchak Frankel (1897-1982) the son of Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Av Beis Din of Yadlive. Was born in Vilpoli, Galicia and was a Chortkow Chassid. Delivered lessons in Zlotshin-Neistadt where he founded a Talmud Torah, Beis Yaakov and a charity fund. Was a representative at the great congress of Agudas Yisroel. In 1936, immigrated to Eretz Yisroel, settling in Tel Aviv, where he served as a Rav of the marriage department of the religious council and where he established the Or Emes synagogue. Was a descendant of Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Yehuda Yechiel Safrin of Komorna and edited his Sefer on Tractate Avos, Netzer Chessed (Jerusalem, 1955).
