Important historical letter by the pious Rebbetzin Mrs. Alte Feige Teitelbaum of Satmar, the wife of the holy Rav Rabbi Yoel of Satmar, sent to Eretz Yisroel in the summer of 1947, containing details about the happening of the holy courtyard and the health of the holy Rav of Satmar.

Background: In early 1947, after a year and a half of living in the Holy land, the holy Rav of Satmar moved to live in the USA. At first it seemed that he might return to Eretz Yisroel; however, the establishment of the State and all that surrounded it, prevented it being realized.

In his first summer in the USA, the holy Rav of Satmar stayed in the camp of the Nietra Yeshiva that was established at the time.

The important Menachem Yisroel [Yisroeltshe] Rothenberg, the future Admor of Koson Borough Park, worked hard before the arrival of the holy Rav of Satmar, organizing a special Sephard version Minyan and taking care of all the Rav’s needs.

The holy Rav of Satmar came to Nietra; yet, suffered from the ‘Rois’ – a dermal disease which caused him to be bedridden all his stay in Nietra and prevented his peace of mind.

In this letter, which was sent to the rabbinic Chassid the Gaon Rav Rabbi Zvi Pinchas Hacohen Moskowitz, the pious Rebbetzin describes the reality of the situation and asks him to describe what is happening in Jerusalem, which was then under siege, suffering days of fear, terror and physical and spiritual anxiety.

She also refers to the loyal Chassid Rabbi Yosel Ashkenazi, who has been supportive at all times.

She states their desire to return to Eretz Yisroel soon, hoping that the state of health of her husband, ‘Harav HaTzaddik Shalita’, improves and will enable the trip.
