[6], 138, [2] leaves, 21 cm. Approbations by Rabbi Yechezkel Landau the Nodah BiYehuda, by Rabbi Pinchas Halevi Ish Horowitz author of the HaFela’ah, the author’s in-law, and by Rabbi Shaul of Amsterdam. Owner’s signatures on the title page, on the leaf with the author’s preface, on the upper part of the pages from leaf 102 p. 2. The author added a handwritten addition on leaf 131 p. 2 and two corrections on leaf 132 p. 2 as well as additional notations throughout the Sefer.
The Gaon Rabbi Elazar Kallir (1738-1801) was born in Rechnitz. His father passed away before he was born and he was named after him. Grew up in the house of his mother’s father Rabbi Meir of Eisenstadt author of Panim Me’iros. In his youth was Rav in Zvalodova, Poland. In 1766 taught Torah in Berlin and since 1768, served as the Rav of Rechnitz and additional Hungarian towns. Since 1782, served as Rav of Kelin and the vicinity. In all these places, he held a large yeshiva and was famed for his great knowledge and sharpness. Was one of the Geonim of Hungary who debated at length with the Nodah BiYehuda, who greatly praised him in his approbation. Authored the Seforim Or Chadash, Chavas Yair Chadash, Shut Cheker Halacha. Authored many additional innovations that were lost in a fire in Kelin.
