[1] picture, 32X34 cm. placed in a wood and glass frame 43X47 cm. On the lower part of the picture, the painter’s signature "Chaim ben Rabbi Avraham the Ram of Foggelin, made in Tamuz … 1859[!]" in a foreign language. The painter’s name is also noted. In the background, behind the Pnei Yehoshua’s figure, a picture with the figure of the Maharal of Prague is hanging.
Rabbi Yaakov Yosha Folk (1680-1756), author of Sefer Pnei Yehoshua on the Sugyos of the Shas, which is a basic Sefer dor studying the Shas. Rabbi Yaakov Yosha served as Rav of several communities, including large and important ones (such as Lemberg, Krakow and Berlin) and was one of the greatest rabbis of his generation. Subsequent to his miraculous rescue from a fire and the destruction of his house in Lemberg, he kept his vow to study Torah and write down his innovations on the Shas and Poskim, continuing what his grandmother’s father, author of Sefer Meginei Shlomo, had started in explaining the questions of the Ba’alei HaTosafos on Rashi.
Rabbi Chaim Pickeler Natensohn (1838-1903) ben Rabbi Avraham. A famed Gaon, Av Beis Din of Židikai, Lithuania. Author of Sefer Drushim [manuscript], Sefer Divrei Chen (Piotrkow, 1904) and Sefer Siftei Chen on the Torah and innovations on the Shas and Poskim (Vilna, 1900).
Fold mark, minor blemishes, stains. Fair-good condition.
