‘What is happening at the camps of the Yemenites is depressing to any Jew’. A personal letter handwritten entirely by the holy Rav Rabbi Sholom of Shotz-London, writing oainfully about the illness of his son the Tzaddik Rav Rabbi Yisroel Yaakov who passed away in his lifetime and about the scandal of the Yemenite children in Israel. London, Shevat 1950.
In the letter, which is of a personal and painful nature, the holy Rav of Shotz describes the state of his second son’s, the Tzaddik Rav Rabbi Yisrael Yaakov Moskowitz, health: ‘For now he is at home, walking or lying in bed may hashem cure him’. The son, like all his siblings, passed away in his father’s lifetime. He also writes about ‘What is happening at the camps of the Yemenites is depressing to any Chareidi Jew…’.
The letter indicates that the renowned Tzaddik Rav Rabbi Sholom of Shotz sent a letter to the residents of the camps of Yemenites. However, knowing that sending the letter directly will encounter obstacles, he asked his close associate to go to the camp near Lod, where many Yemenite immigrants resided, and read the letter and its translation to them or send a trusted messenger to do so.
The holy Gaon Rabbi Sholom of Shotz [1878-1958] a descendant of the Tzaddikim of Zlotchov, Belz and Premishlan, one of the greatest Admorim of his generation. A wonder-worker in his lifetime and after his passing, who was famed for the power of his prayers. Knowledgeable in all parts of the Torah. Served as Rav of Shotz since 1903. In 1927, moved to London where he was admired by all circles and communities. In his will he promised that anyone who comes to his tomb, lights two candles for the ascent of his soul and commits to strengthen in some Mitzvah or Torah study, he will stir mercy in Heaven for him.
