Shocking letter handwritten entirely by Maran the holy Rav the Imrei Chaim of Vizhnitz, during the onset of World War II, sent to the holy Rav of Kopitshnitz in America and dealing with the rescue of the holy Tzaddik Rabbi Moshenyu of Boyan-Krakow. Later, he bemoans the terrible situation in the camps of Poland.
Shocking historical document!
The lengthy letter bears the date Yitro 1940, the war yet to reach this area of Romania where the Imrei Chaim Lived.
The letter is divided into three: at the beginning, the Imrei Chaim asks the holy Rav of Kopitshnitz to urgently send money for the rescue of the holy Rav Rabbi Moshe of Boyan-Krakow, one of the greatest contemporary Tzaddikim, whom worldwide efforts were made to save yet eventually perished in Turnov in late 1943.
The Rabbi notes that a large sum of money should be sent to the important activists Rabbi Moshe Schreiber, the president of Kollel Drohobych, and Rabbi Yaakov Griffel, who later, as the representative of Agudas Yisroel in Turkey, managed to save thousands. The Rabbi notes an address in Lugano, Switzerland, stating that money answers all and it is the only thing that might help rescuing the Rav. ‘Haste is necessary’ he ends.
In the second part of his letter, the Rabbi describes a large camp, of four hundred people, in occupied Poland, to which citizens of neutral countries were sent and can be rescued with huge sums of money. The description indicates that the Imrei Chaim well-understood the fatal danger the prisoners of the camp were in much earlier than the rest of the free world in those early days of the war.
The Imrei Chaim notes that he is losing sleep over the situation, writing that ‘any eye would tear, I despise myself, I am in my home, eating by my table, and they? Heaven help, they are in prison facing death.
In the third part, the Imrei Chaim practically begs that the Rav of Kopitshnitz send more letters and field reports. He asks about the health of the rabbi who has finally found peace in America and again refers to the suffering of the Rav of Boyan-Krakow.
The letter is handwritten entirely and signed by Maran the Imrei Chaim.
