Postcard of gratitude handwritten by the great Gaon Rabbi Shimon Shkop, one of the greatest Rosh Yeshivas and their father, to the supporters of his yeshiva. Grodno, 1936.
The Yiddish postcard is handwritten entirely by him and is laden with his blessings for the supporters of the yeshiva. He ends with a request and plea to continue their support of the yeshiva. His handwritten Hebrew signature and stamp appear at the end as well as the stamp of the yeshiva. Grodno, Cheshvan 1945.
The great Gaon author of ‘Sha’arei Yosher’ Rabbi Shimon Yehuda HaKohen Shkop (1860-1939) one of the greatest Rosh Yeshivas in Lithuania and leaders of the generation. After two years of studying at the Mir Yeshiva, he joined a selected group which studied Torah with the Gaon Rabbi Chaim of Brisk at the Volozhin Yeshiva. He married the niece of Rabbi Eliezer Gordon of Telz, who was impressed by his spiritual greatness and invited him to serve as a Ram at the Telz Yeshiva for eighteen years. In 1920, he was called by the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodsinsky to serve as the Rosh Yeshiva of the Sha’ar HaTorah Yeshiva in Grodno. He held this position until his passing. There he also published his book "Sha’arei Yosher", a basic book for Yeshiva students throughout the Jewish world.
