Handwritten copy of a letter by the Rebbe Rayatz with a demand to enable Reb Shlomo Karlibach and his brother to study at the Tomchei Temimim yeshiva. Brooklyn, [1944].
"And Hashem Yisborach blessed them with wisdom to recognize the complete truth that true success of studying and Yirash Shamayim … can be acquired only at the Tomchei Temimim yeshiva; copy of a letter by the holy Rav the Rayatz of Lubavitch to Rabbi Naftali and his wife , with a demand to enable their twin sons, Reb Eliyahu Chaim and Reb Shlomo, to transfer to the Tomchei Temimim Yehshiva.

Background: In ca. 1931, the Admor the Rayatz visited Vienna. There, Rabbi Naftali Karlibach introduced him to his twin sons Shlomo and Eliyahu Chaim, who were then six years old. They were blessed by the Admor the Rayatz that they merit being Chassidic Jews, worshiping G-d joyfully and studying diligently with Yiras Shamayim. In 1939, the Karlibach family moved to New York. Rabbi Naftali started serving as a Rav of a local community in Manhattan, sending his sons to the Torah VaDa’as Yeshiva and to Rabbi Aharon Kotler’s yeshiva in Lakewood, New jersey. The brothers became close to the Chabad Chassidus, occasionally coming to study at the Tomchei Temimim yeshiva, their father returning them several days later to Lakewood. In this letter, the Rayatz demands that their parents give them their blessing to transfer to the Tomchei Temimim yeshiva. The Rebbe saw this as a reward for his blessing: ‘According to our holy Torah – for my blessing – I rightfully demand that the students who are close to my heart Mr. Eliyahu Chaim and Mr. Shlomo study from now on at the yeshiva of Tomchei Temimim.
Rabbi Eliyahu Chaim Karlibach (1925-1968) received his Semicha by the heads of the Tomchei Temimim yeshiva. Succeeded his father as Rav of the Kehilas Yaakov community, established and managed the Zecher Naftali institute and published dozens of books.
Rabbi Shlomo Karlibach (1925-1995) ‘The Dancing Rabbi’, a spiritual leader, storyteller, renowned composer and one of the greatest Chassidis singers who brought many Jews closes to the Father in Heaven. Since his youth was considered an Iluy and his rabbis predicted him a dazzling future as a Talmid Chacham. Received his Semicha and on the 19th of Kislev 1949, the Admor the Rayatz sent him to bring students closer to Judaism and Chassidus, thus becoming one of the first Shlichim of Chabad. He continued distributing Chassidus in the USA and Israel by stories, singing and playing his guitar. He founded the Beis Ahava VeTefilah in San Francisco and in Israel the Mevoh Modi’in settlement. He was one of the first activist in the struggle for the Jews of the USSR. Rabbi Karlibach’s songs became an integral part of Chassidic music, so much so that some are known as "folk music.
