$50 banknote given by the Lubavitcher Rebbe on the 13th of Sivan 1985, for the purchase of a house.
The distribution of dollars in the Rebbe’s doctrine: When the Rebbe was asked why he was distributing dollars, the Rebbe explained that his in-law the Rebbe the Rayatz used to say: "when two Jews meet, they should see to it that a third Jew benefits". The Rebbe wanted to turn his meeting with Jews from a meaningless meeting to a Shlichus Mitzvah, giving the dollar, or its value, to charity, thus involving those he met with in a good deed for a third party – the final receiver of the dollar. Once the Rebbe was asked how come he does not get tired. He smiled and replied: "Every Jew is a diamond – can a man get tired of counting diamonds?". The Rebbe often spoke of this custom, saying that if it was done for three years, it becomes a "Chazakah" and should not be changed.
