Lengthy and historical letter, written by the Tzaddik Gaon Rabbi Shmuel Hillel Shenkar, the eldest son-in-law of Maran the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld, and sent to Maran the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Zvi Dushinsky when he received the appointment of Gaon Av Beis Din of Jerusalem and Mara DeAra DeYisroel.
Lengthy and important letter, on many pages, written in Cheshvan 1932, six months after the passing of the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld, by Rabbi Shmuel Hillel and expressing the joy of the close family of Maran Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld, at the appointment of his successor, the Tzaddik Gaon the Rav of Chust and previously the Rav of Galanta. He also mentions the struggles of his in-law in Jerusalem, his devotion to Jerusalem, its unique character and residents and his struggles for the Holy Eretz Yisroel.
Rabbi Shenkar recalls in detail that he is the man closest to Maran Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld, his standing with his wife at the head of managing the great house, his teaching for no personal gain the sons of the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Chaim. Therefore, he asks that one of his sons-in-law be appointed Dayan or Moreh Hora’ah in Jerusalem, as a reward for his many years of service for the city and its residents and especially for the family of his great in-law Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld.
The Tzaddik Gaon Rabbi Shmuel Hillel Shenkar [passed away in 1956] the great son-in-law of Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld the Rav of HaEdah haChareidis and Agudas Yisroel of Jerusalem. Was the son of Rabbi Avraham Shenkar, one of the leading disciples of Rabbi Yisroel Salanter. Established in Jerusalem the Beis HaMussar and the Or Chadash yeshiva.
6 leaves, official stationery of Rabbi Shmuel Hillel Shenkar, all handwritten by him. The last is written on both its sides. Scorching damage to the center of the leaves, almost not affecting the text. Good condition.
