The Kabbalist Rabbi Yaakov Tzemach [1570?-1667] was born in Portugal to a family of Conversos. Worked as a physician. Moved to Salonika, where he openly returned to Judaism. In 1618, immigrated to Eretz Yisroel, settling in Safed where he studied Kabbalah. He then moved to Damascus and became the disciple of Rabbi Shmuel Vital, the son of Rabbi Chaim Vital, until he returned to Eretz Yisroel, settling in Jerusalem, where he edited Rabbi Chaim Vital’s writings. In 1765, he acted against the messiah claimant Shabtai Zvi.

The Renowned Holy Gaon Rabbi Akiva Yosef Schlesinger [1837-1922] a disciple of his father Rabbi Yechiel who was a disciple of the Chasam Sofer and the Ketav Sofer, the Maharam Schick and the Machaneh Chaim. The son-in-law of the Holy Gaon Rabbi Hillel Lichtenstein of Kalameu. Immigrated to the Land of Israel and acted for its pure settlement. Was renowned for his unique Psakim on several matters, Psakim that led to a heated polemic for several years.
