Historical and special! Ledger of the holy comminty of Hoida Besermin, Hungary, for the years 1859-1878, mentioning visits of the Tzaddikim of the generation, sermons by Geonim and Tzaddikim, important charities, the funeral of the holy Rav of Liska and many events from the life of the holy community.

A full ledger, approx. 69 lengthy leaves, in Yiddish, Hungarian and Hebrew, in which the expenses and revenues of the community were written as well as donations and expenses of the public and its institutions.

Most of the time, the Chief Rabbi of the town the great Gaon Rabbi Aharon Fried author of Shut Maharap and Zekan Aharon is referred to.

The ledger draws a profound and extremely rare picture of the visits of Tzaddikim such as the holy Rav the Zvi LaTzaddik of Blazov, who came to the city before Rosh HaShanah, Rabbi Ephraim Fischel Sofer of Nanosh, the Rav of Liska, the Rav of Mad, the Rav of Ratzfert and more.

Mentioned several times are shipments of donations, Ma’amados and Pidyon Nefesh to ‘the Rav of Liska’ and once, ‘the Rav Rabbi Yeshaya Getzalt Sprebren fin Lisker Rov‘. We also find in 1874, in the expenses after Passover, the trip of the Rav of the city to the funeral of the holy Rav of Liska and expenses for coffee and sugar for Leil Shavu’os.

Mentioned is also the Tzaddik Rabbi Michael Zshiirker, charity for the poor, money for the Shamash, the Rav, expenses of warming the Mikveh and additional ongoing expenses as well as a Nedunya for the marriage of the Rav’s daughter, Etrogim and Lulavim for the public, donations for Eretz Yisroel.

Mentioned are also the Geonim Rabbi Baruch of Nanosh, Rabbi Shlomo Sofer the son of the Kesav Sofer, the Tzemach Tzaddik of Vizhnitz, Rabbi Yitzchak Shmelkish, the Beis Yitzchak of Premishla, the Kol Aryeh of Mad and additional fascinating details on the Tzaddikim of the generation and the life of the community.

The signatures of the leaders of the community appear several times on the ledger.

The Gaon Rabbi Aharon Fried, the Rav of Besermin [1813-1891] the son-in-law and leading disciple of the holy Gaon the Shemen Roke’ach. A disciple of the Chasam Sofer, who had ordered his son the Kesav Sofer to study and go over the lessons with him. Authored the Shut Maharap, Zekan Aharon, Tzel HaKesef, Omar LeZion, Chalas Aharon.

The Besermin community of Hungary, approx. twenty km. from Debertzin, was not very large but was important and famed. Eventually, its Rav was the holy Gaon the author of Harei Besamim alongside his son-in-law by his first marriage the Tzaddik Gaon the Mishneh Sachir of Pishtian.

[69] leaves, 39 cm. [6] leaves are mostly torn and one leaf is completely torn. Lined leaves. Three languages: Yiddish, Hungarian and Hebrew. Old, original binding. Good condition.
