Pedigreed copy: Sefer Mevo Ptachim. Amsterdam, 1736. Owned by the holy Rav Rabbi Nachum Ber’nyu Friedman of Sadigura and by the Mussar Gaon Rabbi Dessler.
On the title page, the holy Rav Rabbi Nachim Ber’nyu Friedman wrote ‘Bought with the money of Nachum Dober Friedman’ and stamped his stamp and an additional one of ‘Kinyan Kaspi”. On the flyleaf, a handwritten notation ‘Of the Seforim of E.E. Dessler’ – apparently a notation from the time he was living in London.
On the last page, an undeciphered gloss in Sephardic script.
The important Sefer: Mevo Ptachim, compilation of Kabbalistic concepts by the Ari, alphabetically ordered, printed at the time by the Gaon Kabbalist Rabbi Yosef Irgas, together with his Sefer Shomer Emunim and here was printed in itself.
The holy Rav Rabbi Nachum Dov Ber Friedman [1844-1883] the son of the holy Rav Rabbi Sholom Yosef of Ruzhin and the son-in-law of the holy Rav Rabbi Avraham Yaakov of Sadigura, a great Torah and Chassidus Gaon. Lived his entire life in the court of his father-in-law in Sadigura. His large library contained many rare Seforim and manuscripts and was one of the most important and renowned libraries in his time. The Gaon author of ‘Yad Yehuda’ the Rav of Sadigura writes in his foreword to his Sefer ‘And when I came here to Sadigura I found what my soul loved in the house of my relative the Tzaddik Rav the son of the holy Nachum Dov who has a collection of rare Seforim by ancient authors which is unparalleled’. Used to stamp his Seforim with three stamps – Minchas Shai (gift), Yerushas Avos (inheritance), Kinyan Kaspi (bought with my money).
