Volume of a Gemore Tractates Shvu’os, Avodah Zarah and Makos, published in Vilna. With lenthy glosses handwritten by the holy Gaon Rabbi Aryeh ZVi Frmer of Kozhiglov, one of the Geonim of Poland and its glory, some of them with his handwritten signature. In addiiton, an ownership signature of Rabbi the Aryeh Sha’ag of Zmigrod.
Large volume of a Gemore, Vilna 1891 edition, with the Rif, the Rosh, the Maharsha and the entire commentators.
Appearing on the top of the title page is the stamp of the acclaimed library of Yeshivas Chachmei Lublin. On the flyleaf and in several places throughout the Shas, lengthy and short glosses handwritten by the holy Gaon of Kozhiglov, two of them signed by him "Aryeh Zvi Ram" or ‘ארי’ צבי ר"מ דיח"ל‘. Glosses on the Gemore, elucidation on the Ran and more. A total of 11 glosses.
On the front flyleaf, the signature of a student of the yeshiva, ‘Leibush Halberstam Zmigrod’ – the holy Rav Rabbi Aryeh Leibush author of Aryeh Sha’ag, the son of the holy Rav Rabbi Sinai of Zmigrod, who was a student of Yeshivas Chachmei Lublin for three years, a disciple of the Maharam Shapiro, the holy Gaon Rabbi Shimon of Zhelichov and of the holy Gaon of Kozhiglov. His handwritten initials appear also inside the Gemore.
In addition, two references by the holy Gaon of Kozhiglov on the title page.
An additional important gloss, in unidentified script, apparently by one of excelling students of the yeshiva.
Mounted on the original binding is a piece of fabric with the embroidery ‘This is the donation of Menachem ben Ester Chai Radomsk’.
The holy Gaon Rabbi Aryeh Zvi Frumer of Kozhiglov [1884-1943] one of Gedolei Hador and of the Geonim of Poland before World War II. A leading and loyal disciple of the holy Rav the Avnei Nezer of Sochatchov and his son the holy Rav the Hashem MiShmuel, Rosh Yeshiva of Sochatchov, Rav in Zbeiracha and Tofes Yeshiva of excelling Bnei Torah in Sosnovich. After the passing of Maran the Maharam Shapiro of Lublin, he served as Rosh Yeshivas Chachmei Lublin.
Moth perforations. Slightly dismantled binding, the last leaves are almost detached. Fair-good condition.
