‘And may this cause our prayers to be accepted willingly Amen Selah’, Shana Tova letter of blessings, with a lengthy addition handwritten by the holy Rav Rabbi Mordechai Chaim Kastelanitz, the leader of the community of Slonim Chassidim, also known as ‘Rabbi Motel Slonimer’.
Printed Shana Tova letter from Tiberius, with decorations and symbols of the sacred sites of the city and its surroundings, sent to the Ezras Yisroel Organization with blessings and on its lower part, an addition of uncommonly lengthy lines handwritten by the holy Rav Rabbi Motel Slonimer, the future leader of the community of Slonim Chassidim after the war and the perishing of the Admor Rabbi Shlomo Dovid Yehoshua the son of the Beis Avraham of Slonim.
The holy Rav Rabbi Motel, who was known by this title even when he led the community, because of his firm demand not to be called Rav or Rebbe, requests pleadingly and repeatedly to assist widows and orphans, whom nobody takes care of before the Yamim Nora’im and Jewish festivals, only Bnei Torah having some organizations.
The holy Rav Rabbi Motel Slonimer signed his full name ‘Mordechai Chaim Kastelanitz’. It is extremely rare for the Rav to sign with his family name; usually, even on official documents, he used to sign ‘Mordechai Chaim Slonim’.
The holy Rav Rabbi Mordechai Chaim ‘Rav Motel Slonimer’ [1864-1954]. When he was a child, he followed the Yessod HaAvodah. Immigrated to Tiberius with his father, who was a leading Chassid. Was also known as ‘Rabbi Motel Dayan’, being a Moreh Hora’ah and Moreh Tzeddek. For many years was considered the greatest Chassid, especially after the passing of his contemporaries in Tiberius. After the World War, he was chosen by the Slonim Chassidim of the Holy Land and the refugees who immigrated to it and was appointed, unwillingly, as the leader of the Slonim Chassidim. Was considered a sacred man and a zealot. He had an amazing memory and therefore, although he was blind, could and would correct his disciples’ reading errors.
