Knesses Hagedolah VeDiv[r]ei Chacha[m]im, [some say by Naftali Hirtz Goldstern], containing letters by the holy Rav Rabbi Chaim Halberstam and his supporters. Published by J. Rohatin, [Lvov], [1869]. Single and rare edition.
32, 25-70 pp. The [5] last leaves are missing.
Background: the Sanz-Sadigura controversy was one of the most heated controversies in Chassidic history. It took place during the years 1869-1870 between the holy Rav Rabbi Chaim of Sanz, the Divrei Chaim, and the sons of the holy Rav Rabbi Yisroel of Ruzhin. The controversy sparked after Rabbi Dov Ber (Bernyu) Friedman joined the Jewish Enlightenement Movement and after the Divrei Chaim suspected that he and his brother support the renewal of the Sabbatians and are not loyal to the Jewish religion. The controversy was accompanied by loathing, bans, persecution and the publishing of dozens of sharp broadsides.
No binding, blemished spine and many detached leaves, many moth holes. Lack to the lower part of one of the leaves, the [5] last leaves are missing, fair-poor condition.
