Form of the purchase of a plot of land in Ness Ziona by David and Miriam Fenik. Ness Ziona, [08.06.1894].

"Sefer HaEdus VeHaMikneh for purchasing a plot of land of Eretz Yisroel in Ness Ziona (Wadi Chanin)" – a deed of the purchase of 10 dunam of the lands of Ness Ziona, signed by the members of the council of the colony.

[1] leaf, thick paper. Printed deed, filled-in by hand, an addition of several handwritten lines and the signatures of the members of the council of the colony and its stamp. The names of the members of the council include Moshe Lerer.

David Fenik was born in Simiatitz, Russia. He married Miriam Neuman. They immigrated to Eretz Yisroel and settled in Ness Ziona. He worked as a farmer and owns orchards and an almond grove. In addition, he was one of the first carpenters of the colony, building the roof of the great synagogue of the colony. David passed away in 1959 and his wife, Miriam, in 1978.

In 1882, Reuven Lerer, a Chabad Chassid who was a member of Chovevei Zion, purchased two thousand dunam of land from a Christian Templer in return for his house in Odessa. Reuven Lerer and his son Moshe immigrated to Eretz Yisroel, Reuven bringing his wife and children to the country a year later. Reuven sold some of the land he had bought to additional settlers. In 1888, he managed to established a Minyan at the agricultural settlement he had founded, which was known at first as Nachalas Reuven. In 1891, Michael Halpern, the Malbim’s grandson and a member of the first Aliyah, suggested the name Ness Ziona for the colony of workers he had established on Lerer’s land.
