Special, enthusiastic Heter Hora’ah handwritten by the great Gaon Rabbi Moshe Katz Av Beis Din of Nietra, to his senior disciple the famed Gaon Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Klein, the future Rav on Nuremberg and a member of Mo’etzes Gedolei HaTorah. Nietra, 1900.
Rabbi Moshe Katz Av Beis Din of Nietra was careful not to write recommendations and Heterei Hora’ah; however, here he made an exception.
The Gaon Rabbi Moshe Katz writes of his disciple, Rabbi Klein, that he is full of wisdom and knowledge, adding other superlatives. He also notes that Rabbi Klein was a Meshamesh at the house of his in-law the Rav of Kempen, which trained him for practical rabbinate in Issur VeHeter.
It should be noted that in the past, a letter handwritten by the Gaon Rabbi Moshe Katz from that same year, 1900, was published. In it, the Rav wrote that ‘he is not in the habit of giving approbations’. His son and successor, the Gaon Rabbi Avraham Aharon, outdid him and wrote that ‘it is not to be done’ and refused to give a Heter Hora’ah unless he had no choice. This, however, is an exception – a letter handwritten by him with a special Heter Hora’ah.
The great Gaon Rabbi Moshe Katz [1842-1927] the son of the famed Gaon Rabbi Menachem Katz of Tzehlim, a leading disciple of Maran the Chasam Sofer.
