Letter by the Chacham Bashi Rabbi Moshe halevi, to the Ashkeenazic community of Jerusalem headed by Rabbi Shmuel Salant. With an explanation why the appointment of the Rishon LeZion Rabbi Yaakov Shaul Elyashar was delayed. Istanbul, [1893]. 


"And anything that was written about the reasons for the delay is a lie and falsehood and may the mouth of liars be shut"; response letter of the Chacham Bashi Rabbi Moshe Halevi, wondering why he was suspected of delaying the appointment of the Rav the Yissah Beracha when the matter was near the end after the response of the authorities being received. 

[1] leaf, 27 cm. Fine scribal script, with the signature of the Chacham Bashi and his stamp. 

Rabbi Moshe Halevi (1810-1910) a polymath, Sage and Dayan, who corresponded with the sages of his generation on many halachic questions. The son-in-law of Rabbi Chaim Nassih. Rosh Av Beis Din of Kushta since 1871 and Chacham Bashi of the Ottoman Empire.
