"We must see to it, and especially in our holy country, to stand guard, that this day will be our day of respite and sanctity in our forefather’s land"; letter by Rabbi Reuven Katz, the Chief Rabbi and Av Beis Din of Petach Tikvah to the members of the local councils of Tel Aviv, for strengthening the observation of the Sabbath in public in Israel. Petach Tikvah, 1946. 

"All members should put up a fight and under no circumstances give permits to violators of the Sabbath who wish to work on Sabbath" – a letter in which Rabbi Reuven Katz, the Rav of Petach Tikvah, on behalf of all the rabbis of the settlements, asks to condition the giving of building permits on avoiding work on Sabbath. The famed Gaon Rabbi Reuven Katz (1880-1963) ) the admired Rav of Petach Tikvah and one of the leading Poskim of his generation. In his youth studied at the Mir, Radin and Slabodka yeshivas (where he was known as the Iluy of Olshan). He also studied at the Slutzk yeshiva with the Gaon Rabbi Isser Zalman Meltzer and used to travel to Rabbi Yitzchak Blazer. In 1929, he immigrated to the USA, serving as a Rav in New Jersey and as vice president of the Union of Rabbis of North America. In 1932, he immigrated to the Holy Land and became the Rav of Petach Tikvah alongside the Rosh Yeshiva of the Lomzhe yeshiva of the city. Authored Shut Degel Reuven and Duda’ei Reuven.
