Short postcard letter, handwritten entirely by the holy Rav the wonder worker Rabbi Sholom of Schotz – London, 1950.
The letter was sent to the rabbinic Chassid Rabbi Zvi Pinchas Moskovich, the confidante of the Rav of Schotz.
In the letter, he addresses his poor health and that of some of his offspring, including his son the Tzaddik Rav Rabbi Yaakov Yisroel Moskovich, who passed away as the rest of his siblings in their father’s lifetime. The Rav also mentions ‘Naftali’ – apparently, his grandson the Tzaddik Gaon Rabbi Naftali Halberstam, the future Admor of Tshokva Jerusalem and chairman of the Kashrus committee of the Eida Chareidis.
In addition, the holy Rav of Schotz writes ‘is there no balm in Gilad, is there no physician there’, humbly refusing to answer a question that was sent to him from the Holy land. It is unclear whether the question was halachic, belonging to one’s world-view or on matters of medicine or commerce.
The holy Gaon Rabbi Sholom of Schotz [1878-1958] a descendant of the Zlotchov, Belz and Premishlan Chassidisms. One of the greatest Admorim of his generation. A famed wonder worker. Knowledgeable in all parts of the Torah. Was famed for the power of his prayers. Served as Rav of Schotz since 1903. In 1927 he moved to London. In his last will and testament he promised to stir pity in Heaven for anyone who comes to his gravesite, lights two candle for the ascent of his soul and takes on to strengthen in a Mitzvah or the study of the Torah.
