Impressive notebook of the Chevra Kaddisha of the Zsambokret [Slovakia] community, from 1835 and onwards.
Notebook of the Chevra Kaddisha of the Nyitra-Zsambokret [Zsambokret / Zabokreky], a town in western Slovakia. Documentation of the years 1835-1925.
[2], 279, [4] leaves, thick paper. Stamps of the Chevra Kaddisha appear in the book.
Including:
A. An impressive Sefer with a notebook containing:
* A leaf from 1865 on matters of donations and purchases. Yiddish.
* A leaf referring to the donation of Rabbi Naftali Sofer in 1839.
* Leaves 1-6: 22 regulations of the Chevra Kaddisha. Hebrew and Yiddish.
* Leaf 7: index of the names appearing in the notebook.
* Leaves 8-279 most of the leaves arededicated each to a single member of the community. From leaf 273, 2-10 members appear on each page.
* Leaves 255-259 [9] lists of the new Gabaim of the Chevra Kaddisha from 1835 to 1906.
* On the last leaves, a list of men and women for Hazkaras Neshamos.
Impressive leather binding, with gilt edges and gilt decorations and lettering, aging stains, good-very good condition.
B. Enclosed with the Sefer is a table, on a folded leaf, [2] pp. 31X47 cm.
The table includes names of people with lists of payments, debts, etc. Rabbi Moshe Neumann is referred to. On verso of the leaf, a notation from the period of World War I, 1915-1916. Stains.
