Sharp letter of protest about the scandal of the Teheran children and the preventing them from receiving Chareidi education, handwritten and signed by the Tzaddik Rav Rabbi Elchonon Yochanan Spiegel the Admor of Ostrove in New York.
The letter was sent to the members of the Union of Rabbis of the USA and Canada, in Tamuz 1943, at the height of the Teheran Children affair – concerning children who immigrated from Teheran to Eretz Yisroel and the Jewish Agency prevented them from receiving Kosher Jewish education. The struggle only partly succeeded, only some of the thousand children continuing to Chareidi educational institutions and others to religious institutions.
The Chief Rabbi, the Gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Halevi Herzog who is referred to in this letter took a central part in the struggle.
The Admor the Tzaddik Rav Rabbi Elchonon Yochanan of Ostrovtze the son of the Tzaddik rav Rabbi naftali Aryeh the son of the holy Rav Rabbi Moshe, the grandson of the holy Rav Rabbi Moshe Roke’ach of Skohk the son of the holy Rav the Sar Sholom. The Rav was also a grandson of the Tzaddikim of Koloshin and Ostrovtze and the holy Rav the Chozeh of Lublin. He married the daughter of the holy Rav Rabbi Yisroel Vohlgalernter the son of the holy Rav the Mishmeres Itamar of Konsikvole.
