Letter written by the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Leib Sofer of paks, author of Yalkus Sofer to the rabbinic philanthropist Rabbi Tzaddok Groiz, the secretary of Kollel Shomrei HaChomos of Jerusalem, referring to the language polemic – which language should be spoken at the educational institutions of Jerusalem. 1917. 


In his letter, he notes several addresses for charity, the great efforts of his wife the pious Rebbetzin Mrs. Rachel the daughter of the Gaon Rabbi David Yehuda Folk, to obtain oil for Passover for the poor of the Holy Land. He asks to give priority to the poor of his town and to his former disciples, referring to Rabbi Elazar Ehrenratia, Rabbi Naftali Herzil, Rabbi Ber Deutsch, Rabbi Yisroel Deutsch and others. 

On the second page, he ask to be informed about the controversy regarding the language that should be spoken at the educational institutions of Jerusalem, a controversy that rocked Jerusalem those days, writing ‘וכמובן יראי ה’ מתרחקת מכל וכל כאשר ראוי כי כל באיה לא ישובון רח"ל, and asking about varied dignitaries and organizations whether they are Yirei Hashem. 

 

The Tzaddik Gaon Rabbi Yosef Leib Sofer of Paks [1861-1918] author of Yalkus Sofer, Likutei Sofer and additional Seforim. Av Beis Din of Deretshke and Paks, the son of the holy Gaon Rabbi Eliezer Sussman Sofer Av Beis Din of Paks author of Yalkus Eliezer. Rabbi Yosef Leib was a disciple of the greatest rabbis of Hungary including the Sheves Sofer of Pressburg and Rabbi Moshe Zekil Folk of Bonyhad. Since 1903, served under his great father and from there spread his light all over Hungary.
