A leaf with a responsum handwritten by Rabbi Yaakov ben Rabbi Shmuel, Ram and Av Beis of Tsoyzmir, the son-in-law of Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac of Tiktin.
[1] handwritten leaf. Written on the top of the pages is the title ‘Beis Yaakov’. Enclosed is a photocopy of the printed version of this responsum.
This responsum, dealing with eating a calf whose mother was trampled by a wolf, was published as the first responsum in his book Shut Beis Yaakov [Dhyrenfurth, 1696] which was approbated by rabbis and leaders of the Council of Four Lands.
In the introduction to his book, the author recalls the destruction of the Jewish communities during the Cossack riots of 1648-1649. He describes the loss of his children, the loss of his innovations and his injury, explaining what led him to write his books.
Blemishes to the edges and corner of the leaf, moth holes, stains, fair condition.
