Elucidation of the Bach on Tur Choshen Mishpas, first section, Frankfurt, 1716, the copy of the great Gaon Rabbi Azriel Horowitz who was also known as Der Eisner Kop, Rosh Av Beis Din of Lublin. His handwritten signature and handwritten notations.
On the flyleaf [detached and restored] his handwritten signature, ‘Azriel Horowitz’ and an ownership notation ‘This Bayis Chadash belongs to the Rav the great Gaon .. Rabbi Azriel Halevi the Horowitz family, Shalita, the famed rabbinic …’
On its verso, a handwritten rhymed introduction to the book, in a script which is very similar to his handwritten signature on the other side of the leaf.
The condition of most leaves of this copy of the Bach is poor with extensive water stains, water damage and existing dampness. Dry leaves and addiitonal blemishes. The flyleaf is detached yet professionally restored, preserving some of the text including the signature, the notation and many other notations some of which are deciphered.
The holy Gaon Rabbi Azriel Halevi Ish Horowitz [1757-1809] Av Beis Din and Ram of Lublin. Was known as Der Eisner Kop. In later years, authored the Rosh hHabarzel Shut and innovations. Was famed for his controversy with the holy Chozeh of Lublin, which served as the background of many tales and stories. Nevertheless, Shmu’os by him appear also in Chassidic courts. In Shut Chemdas Shlomo, Rabbi Azriel is called ‘קדוש ה’ כבוד האי רב גאון הגדול המפורסם מופת הדור כקש"ת…’
