[3] pp. Sephardic script. approx. [100] lines, some in Italian. On the side of one of the pages, a handwritten gloss was added. The letter is signed: החותם באהבה רבה עבדו המוכן לשרתו הק’ יוסף אליהו פסה ס"ט היום יום טו"ב למב"י [=למנין בני ישראל] התקע"ו"]. With a page with the details of the addressee, Rabbi Chanael Nifi of Ferrara and traces of a wax seal and postmarks of Ferrara and Modena.
Rabbi Yosef Eliyahu Passa – a leading Italian sage. In his youth studied at the Modena Yeshiva and was a leading disciple and confidante of the Rosh Yeshiva and Av Beis Din the Gaon Rabbi Yishmael Hacohen author of Shut Zerah Emes. In his foreword to Zerah Emes III, Rabbi Yosef Eliyahu wrote about the greatness and modesty of his great Rav.
