Letter by the great Gaon Rabbi Yisroel Kanievsky, from 1919, to the Gaon the Mahari Shuv, the right-hand man of the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinsky.
The entire letter is handwritten and signed by Maran the Steipler from the time he lived in Pinsk, serving as Reish Metivta at the Novhardok yeshiva.
Wondrously, Maran the Steipler added the notation ‘הק’ before his name, like a Chassidic Admor.
In his letter, the Steipler refers to the Maharash, apparently Rabbi Shmuel Weintraub the Rosh Yeshiva. The Steipler signed the letter with ‘Rav here’ possibly signing ‘Ram here’.
The great Gaon Rabbi Yaakov Yisroel Kanievsky, the Kehilos Yaakov [1899-1985] Gedol Hador. Was born to a family of Horonsteipel Chassidim and was named after the holy Rav Rabbi Yaakov Yisroel of Tsherkas. Studied at the Novhardok yeshiva and married the sister of the Chazon Ish. For many years was the right hand man of his great brother-in-law. After the passing of the Chazon Ish, he was gradually acknowledged as the leader of the Lithuanian Bnei Torah and as one of the greatest leaders and Tzaddikim of the generation. His succeeding son is the great Gaon Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky Shalita.
