The Sefer was approbated by the Geonim of Kushta: Rabbi Chaim Kimchi, Rabbi Shmuel Halevi, Rabbi Yehuda Rosanis (author of Mishneh LaMelech) and by the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Rappaport Av Beis Din of Oxtroh author of Mayim Chaim.
The Rishon LeZion Rabbi Moshe Ben Chaviv (1654-1696) was born in Salonika to his father Rabbi Shlomo, a descendant of the Nimukei Yosef of the Rif. At a young age, Rabbi Moshe came to Jerusalem and studied at the yeshiva of Rabbi Yaakov Hagiz, who was most fond pf him and even married his daughter to him.
