Tzinah David, commentary on Hilchos Nikur of Sefer haItur, by Rabbi david Deutsch. First ediiton, Furth, [1750].

Sefer Tzinha David, commentary on Hilchos Nikur [from Sefer HaItur, by Rabbi Yitzchak ben Rabbi Abba Mari, with the text], by the Menaker of Nikolsburg and Albershweiler Rabbi David ben Rabbi Gershon Deutsch.

2, [4], 5-18 leaves, 19 cm. With Hilchos Nikur translated into Yiddish in Tzor characters. Several approbations including an approbation by Rabbi Yonosson ben Rabbi Nosson Nota [Eibeschütz] Av Beis Din of Metz.

On the back of the title page, the six basic rules for the Menaker shaped as a star-of-David and in its center "Tzinah David". This is one of the first sources, if not the first, introducing the star-of-David and calling it Tzinah [Biblical Hebrew for shield] David.

The same year this book was published, 1750, the book by Rabbi Avraham Chaim ben Shmuel Fiebush Hacohen, the grandson of the Sefer Me’iras Enayim, was also published – the Eretz HaChaim commentary on Sefer Tehillim. In chapter 18 of the book it was written that the shape of the shields of the house of David was that of a star-of-David: "The kings of the house of David … had a shield shaped like a six-pointed star, indicating … it received abundance from six sides and David is the seventh".

Renewed binding, aging stains, good-very good condition.
