Rare Sefer: Shuta DeYanuka authored by the holy Gaon Rabbi Chizkiya Shmuel Tarika, one of the leading rabbis of Izmir. Light thoughts and Gemtriya on the Torah. Printed in Izmir in ca. 1861.
On the back flyleaf, the handwritten signature of the Gaon the Rishon LeZion Rabbi Chaim David Chazan who signed ‘ס"ט דוד חזן’.
The Rishon LeZion Rabbi Chaim David Chazan (1790-1869), Gedol Hador of his generation, the son of the Rishon LeZion Rabbi Yosef Raphael Chazan author of the Chikrei Lev (one of the most well-known Shut Seforim among Sephardic Poskim and in general). In his youth he served as the head of the Shochatim in Izmir. Later, in 1840, he was appointed to serve as the head of the rabbis of the town, holding the position for several years. In 1855, he immigrated to the Land of Israel, settling in Jerusalem. There he held various rabbinic positions alongside the greatest rabbis of Jerusalem including Rabbi Moshe Benvanisti, Rabbi Chaim Nissim Abulafia and more. In Jerusalem he did much for the welfare of the members of the Yishuv, even going on a Shadarut journey to Vienna. In 1861, he was appointed Chacham Bashi and Rishon LeZion, positions he held until his passing. Authored many Seforim: Shut Nediv Lev, Torat HaZevach – Dinei Sechita, Yitav Lev – Drushim, and more.
