Letter to Rabbi Shmuel Salant with a request to influence Rabbi Zvi Hirsch Mundshein to fund the medical expenses of his granddaughter. [1903].

"I plead with his honor to convince him to send us a certain amount each month, and we will add what is missing …"; letter of request by Shelah Shvientoslavsky to Rabbi Shmuel Salant to influence Rabbi Zvi Hirsch Mundshein of Jerusalem to help fund the hospitalization expenses of his granddaughter who suffered from tuberculosis

[3] pp. handwritten letter.

The content of the letter: Mrs. Feiga Mundhsein was a dentist who became mortally ill with tuberculosis. She was sent abroad to receive medical treatment. The family was required to pay 150 Ruble for her hospitalization and her grandfather, Rabbi Zvi Hirsch Mundhsein, ignored his in-law’s pleas to help fund the expenses.  The in-law asks Rabbi Shmuel Salant to help convince Rabbi Zvi Hirsch to send money to save his granddaughter, assuming Rabbi Zvi Hirsch will try to justify his refusal by claiming his granddaughter "is not Temimas Derech with her Judaism". In response, the writer of the letter emphasizes that it is Piku’ach Nefesh and that the granddaughter was very particular not to write on Sabbath and the Jewish Festivals when she studied at the University of Warsaw and to eat only kosher both at work and during her hospitalization.
