Letter handwritten by the Gaon Rabbi Mordechai Leibovich, Rosh Av Beis Din of Pressburg and eventually the Rav of machzikei Hadas of Brussels, about the Kashrus of the Slivovitz which he confirmed and signed. No date. ca. 1947. 

The letter was sent to the Union of Rabbis of the USA and Canada and lists the actions taken for protecting the Kashrus and supervision. 

The Gaon Rabbi Mordechai Leibovich was one of the important rabbis of She’eris Hapletah in Pressburg,   being one of the re-founders of the destroyed community. He gave the Slivovitz, which is a fruit spirit, its Kashrus. This letter is indication of the rebuilding of the Jewish world after the Holocaust. 

The Gaon Rabbi Mordechai Leibovich was the son of the Gaon Rabbi Shimon Leibovich. He was a Dayan in Pressburg before the war. After the war, Rabbi Mordechai became a More Hora’ah in Pressburg and the vicinity and eventually was appointed the head of the committee of rabbis of Czechoslovakia. Later, he moved to Brussels, Belgium, serving as the Rav of the Machzikei Hadas community. 

[1] leaf stamped with his stamp, handwritten and signed by him. Fold marks with a minor erasure along the fold lines. A small tear to the upper edge. Very good condition.
