Rare written and signed document, about the conditions of a donation of a Sefer Torah to the large Kloiz of the Sadigura Chassidim in Sdeh Lavan. Shevas, 1912.

A special document signed by the philanthropists and leaders of the Sadigura Kloiz in Sdeh Lavan, Ukraine, about the donation of the important woman Mrs. Zipporah, the daughter of the late Rabbi Avraham Yaakov ben Rabbi Meir Shoches and Bodek, of a Sefer Torah and the stipulations of reading it, correcting it and commemorating the Yahrzeit dates of her family.

The agreement is signed by Rabbi Meir … Rabbi Moshe Aharon Shapiro, Rabbi Alter Shatz, Rabbi Moshe ben Rabbi Zvi … Rabbi Mordechai Yitzchak Krasno, Rabbi Yaakov Helfgohd and Rabbi David Shayish.

The city of Sdeh Lavan was known among the Jews as ‘Schwartzeh Tumah’ since its name was saliently Christian and the Jews, therefore, called it by a pejorative name, referring to it in their letters as Sdeh Lavan. In this city, there was a community of Ruzhin Chassidim with many Sadigura Chassidim.

This document enables a peek into the customs of this important community and its famed Kloiz.
