Harav Hame’iri. Amsterdam, [1769]. First edition. Rare.
Sefer Harav Hame’iri, Beis habchirah on tractate Megilah. Leib Sussmanesh Press, Amsterdam, [1769]. First edition of the famed commentary by Rabbi Menachem ben Rabbi Shlomo Hame’iri, who was one of the Rishonim. First and rare edition. The copy of Rabbi Ze’ev Dreizen.
[3], 40, [1] leaves. This edition was published from a manuscript that "was archived for several years" by Rabbi Chaim Cohen who escaped from Belgrad (Serbia) "due to the oppressors … the cruel enemies" and came to Amsterdam to raise funds for Pidyon Shvuyim, to save the members of his family who remained there. When he failed to raise the required funds, he published this book – the profits from its sale intended to redeem the publisher’s relatives. With important approbations by the rabbis of Amsterdam, Hague and Rotterdam and by the Shadarim of Hebron. With stamps of "אברהם בר"מ צבי" and his handwritten signature and with the stamp of Rabbi Ze’ev Dreizen.
Rabbi Ze’ev Dreizen (1907-1972) – a student of the Rabbi Yitzchak Elchonon, Mir, Radin and Merkaz Harav yeshivas and of the Harry Fischel Institute. A graduate of the New York and Harvard universities. President of the Union of Rabbis. Married Mrs. Chava Shapiro, the daughter of the Admor of Grodzisk and was the brother-in-law of Rabbi Yehoshua Hutner.
