Or Ne’elam / Or Loh BeZion. First edition, Karlsruhe, 1765. Copy of the Gaon author of Aruch Laner Rabbi Yaakov Ettlinger. 


On the flyleaf, a relief of the foreign signature, without ink, of the holy Gaon the Aruch Laner. On the title page, a signature handwritten by him. 

The book contains responsa and innovations on the Shas by Av Beis Din of Pfersee Rabbi Yitzchak Zekil Ethoisen, on which responses by leading Gedolei Hador were printed. Rabbi Yonasson Eibschutz, the Pnei Yehoshua, the Knesses Yechezkel, the Shav Yaakov and more.


The Wonderful Gaon Rabbi Yaakov Yokev Ettlinger (1798-1871), one of the greatest rabbis of Ashkenaz in his generation. Studied with the greatest rabbis of Ashkenaz such as Rabbi Asher the son of the Sheagas Aryeh, Tabbi Avraham Bing and Rabbi Avraham Binyamin Ze’ev Hamburg (author of Sha’ar Zekenim). Rabbi Yaakov was one of the first orthodox rabbis who was also an academic as a student of the Würzburg University. Served as a Rav in many communities of Ashkenaz. He was one of the fierce opponents of the Reform Movement which was established in Germany in his time. His greatest students at the yeshivas he had established were the Rashar Hirsch and Rabbi Azriel Hildesheimer.
