Talmud Bavli, Zhtomyr [1858-1864]. Set with original leather bindings, with a single volume from [1867].
Set of the Talmud Bavli with the commentators. The press of the grandsons of the Rav of Slavuta, Rabbi Chanina Lipa and Rabbi Yehoshua Heshil Shapiro, Zhytomyr, [1858-1864] and [1867].
[20] volumes, 37-41 cm. Apparently, only one leaf is missing. In almost all tractates there are ownership stamps of Shlomo Stern of Siget.
Please see Hebrew catalog text for a detailed description of each of the tractates.
The tractates at the beginning of the volumes and tractates Avodah Zarah and Menachot have two title pages. To some of the tractates, the composition Meir nativ by the Gaon Rabbi Shabtai Hacohen was added.
The important and pedigreed printery of the holy Tzaddikim of the Shapiro family was established in Slavuta by the holy Rav Rabbi Moshe Shapiro the son of Rabbi Pinchas of Koretz and was considered one of the most pedigreed printeries, both because of the quality of its printing and because of the pedigree of its owners.
The printery which was closed due to an informing to the authorities was reestablished in Zhytomyr in 1847 by the grandsons of the Rav of Slavuta, Rabbi Chanina Lipa and Rabbi Yehoshua Heschel Shapiro and operated until 1864.
Books that were printed at the printeries of Slavuta and Zhitmoir were known for their special holiness and sanctity, their printing blocks being immersed in a Mikveh before being used. It is common knowledge that possessing a book that was printed in Zhytomyr or Slavuta is a Segulah for an abundance of blessing and success.
Taping to the thick of the binding and on most of them, the title of the tractate. Minor blemishes to some of the bindings. Moth holes. Stains. Good condition.
