Background: In 1906, Shlomo Yehuda Algazi, known as Friedlander, started publishing that he has found an ancient manuscript of the entire Seder Kodashim of the Yerushalmi (a Seder about which there was considerable controversy concerning whether it ever existed in the first place). He convinced an owner of a printery in Sieni to print the manuscript, adding his commentary, which he titled Cheshek Shlomo.
This fraud was initially accepted joyfully by most rabbis and scholars, the Maharsham of Berzhan even adding his approbation.
Slowly the Rabbis and scholars began to doubt the reliability of this Seder. Friedlander, who was furious due to the attacks on his honor (and livelihood), published a Kuntres under a pseudonym titled Cherev Nokemet, slandering Rabbi Meir Dan Plotzki, author of the Kli Chemdah, who wrote a booklet titled ‘שאלו שלום ירושלים’ doubting the authenticity of the manuscript. Later it was revealed that Friedlander was an infamous con man who was already caught red-handed several times in the past and that even his name was fraudulent. The Yerushalmi was brought to three of Gedolei Hador, the Imrei Emes of Ger, Rabbi Meir Simcha of Dvinsk and Rabbi Yosef Ruzhin, the Rogatchover and they decided that it was a fraud.
