Original portrait of Rabbi Akiva Eiger, handmade in the year after his passing, artistic micrography of Psalms. Proistadt [Prussia], [1839]. Rare.
The original portrait of Rabbi Akiva Eiger was made after his passing. Its photograph is introduced in varied books.
"The portrait of the great Gaon Av Beis Din of Posen and the state Rabbi Akiva Eiger, made by the Yosef Berl Katz of Proistadt in [1839]".
In 1838, the Gaon Rabbi Akiva Eiger , Av Beis Din of Posna, passed away. In the following year, the young Yosef Berl Katz of Proistadt created an artistic micrography of Rabbi Akiva’s portrait made of varied Psalms.
A photograph of this micrography was introduced in many books and was described at length in the book Ma’oran shel Yisrael on the Gaon Rabbi Akiva Eiger (New York, 1990 and additional editions).
[1] leaf, framed. The Rav’s portrait is depicted with a micrography of verses of Sefer Tehillim. On the lower part of the leaf, an illustration of a tombstone with the date of Rabbi Akiva Eiger’s passing: "נאסף אל עמיו י"ג תשרי ש’ תקצ"ח [1837]".
Minor blemishes to the wooden frame. Stains and dampness damage. Good condition.
