‘שלא ייבש המעיין’ Manuscript manuscript of the Last Will of Maran the Chasam Sofer – handwritten in Yiddish-Duetsch close to his passing
A small booklet, handwritten by one of his disciples, a precise translation of the wonderous Last Will of Maran the Chasam Sofer of Pressburg.
The booklet ends with the words ‘דער בוים, דער פרוכט דעם לעבענס’ – translation of his holy words ‘לא ייבוש המעין ולא ייקצץ האילן’ (may the spring never dry and the tree never be cut).
It should be noted that shortly after the passing of Maran the Chasam Sofer, his Last Will translated into Yiddish was published; however, this is a handwritten translation into Deutsch-Yiddish from the period and it varies from the printed version, for example the one appearing in the book Tzavat Moshe.
[6] leaves, written on both sides, a total of [12] pages. Wear. Stains. Small tears and some faded text. Good condition.
