Yiddish letter handwritten by the pious Rebbetzin Freida, the widow of Maran the Chofetz Chaim, on the official stationery of her great husband – "blessing, success and good livelihood" – Radin, Motza’ei Rosh Hashana 1935

The letter was writen to the philanthropist Rabbi Avraham Mayers of New York, who supported the household of the Chofetz Chaim in his last years and continued to support his widow after her great husband’s passing. 

At the beginning of the letter, the Rebbetzin thanks him for the $10 he had sent her. Later, she blesses him with warm blessings. 

The pious Rebbeztin Mrs. Miriam Freida Kagan – the wife and widow of Maran the Chofetz Chaim. She was his second wife and they were married in ca. 1906 (approx. two years after his first wife’s passing). She was dozens of years younger than him. (She gave birth to their son, Rabbi Aharon, and daughter, the Rebbetzin Feige Chaya Sacks, the wife of the Gaon Rabbi Menachem Mendel Sacks, the mother of the Gaon Rabbi Hillel Sacks). Passed away in 1946 in the USA.
