A letter handwritten and signed by the Gaon of Mussar and Hashkafa, Rabbi Leib Chasman. The letter was sent to Vilna to the house of Maran Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinsky, addressed to Rabbi Yosef Shuv, referring to the activity of Va’ad HaYeshivas of Vilna, the trip of the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Ozer of Vilna and a visit of the Chofetz Chaim.
The letter was written on an official postcard and was sent in Tamuz 1926. Rabbi Leib Chasman writes about the aciivity of Va’ad HaYeshivas in his area and about methods for making fundraising more efficient.
Later, he asks Rabbi Yosef Shuv, the confidante of Maran Rabbi Chaim Ozer ‘why had he not informed me about the results of his trip to Radin as he had promised and whether the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Ozer has already travelled to Vilna…’
At the end of the letter, he also asks ‘whether you know if the Tzaddik Gaon the Rim [Rabbi Yisroel Meir, the Chofez Chaim] Shlita is staying these days in Vilna’.
The Great Mussar Gaon, Maran the Mashgiach Rabbi Yehuda Leib Chasman (1869-1936), the spiritual manager of the Telz and Hebron yeshivas and one of the greatest Ba’alei Mussar of his generation. Studied with the Geonim Rabbi Yitzchak Blazer and the Saba of Slabodka Rabbi Nosson Zvi Finkel. In addition, he studied for approx. a year at the Talmud Torah of Kelm with the Saba Rabbi Simcha Zissel. After his marriage, he studied for approx. a year at the Volozhin Yeshiva. Served as Rav in Shtotzin and the Telz Yeshiva. Immigrated to Eretz Yisroel and served as the spiritual manager of the Hebron Yeshiva. His Torah was gathered in the Sefer Or Yahel, an important Mussar book.
