Sheets of Masechet Avot of Shas Vilna, with a commentary on the tractate handwritten on the margins of the sheet titled Divrei Chen, by Rabbi Chaim Neiger of Tarnow – Tarnow, 1930 / Shir Latalmud or Mizmor Latorah – Slabodka, 1893

The Divrei Chen commentary is kind of a draft of the Avot Lebanim commentary on Masechet Avot published by the author in Jerusalem in 1934. On the last leaf of this commentary, the author signed his name: "חיים ניגר, [נגמר בעזהי"ת ביום א’ ט"ז אב תר"ץ פה ק"ק טרנוב".

At the beginning of the leaves of Masechet Avot, a flyleaf with Shir Latalmud or Mizmor Latorah, a rhymed poem on the Torah and its love written by a man named Chaim. The poem is written as an acrostic of the bride’s and groom’s names: Chaim and Leah. At the end of the poem, the writer recalls that he received for his wedding in Av 1893, the Shas Vilna and four parts of the Shulchan Aruch Lviv edition, here in Slabodka.

It is unclear whether this Chaim is Rabbi Chaim Neiger or another person named Chaim.
