Certificate handwritten by Rabbi Moshe David Ashkenazi, Av Beis Din of Seret, for a fictive marriage for obtaining an immigration certificate. Seret, [1935].
"It is confirmed … that she has been married by the law of the state … before their trip to Eretz Yisroel but not according to the law of Moses and Yisroel and they did this to travel together to the Holy land and be given an immigration certificate"; confirmation by Rabbi Moshe David Ashkenazi of the halachic invalidity of a fictive marriage which were done for receiving an immigration certificate to Eretz Yisroel according to the policy of the White paper of the British Mandate. Rabbi Moshe David ben Rabbi Yisroel Ashkenazi, a disciple of his uncle the Admor author of Kedushas Yom Tov of Siget. Received his Hora’ah Semicha from the Sho’el UMeshiv, Rabbi Yosef Shaul Nathanson. After his marriage to Rachel, the daughter of Rabbi Yaakov Panet. Av Beis Din of Retiag and author of Sefer She’eris Yaakov, he lived in his in-law’s house for several years to study Torah. Later, he served as Rav in Spermezo and Deyzh and Rosh Av Beis Din of Seret. During World War I, he escaped to Retiag, where he managed a yeshiva. He returned to Seret, where he passed away on Yom Kippur 1939.
