Arbitration Psak of the Beis Din of Hamburg pertaining to the sale and purchase of seats at the synagogue of the Lichten Fels community – 1755.
Two large pages containing a Psak Din pertaining to the rights of selling and purchasing seats at the synagogue, with 9 lengthy and detailed clauses. Many details about the customs and management of the Jewish communities of the 18th century can be derived from this document.
Written at the beginning of this leaf: "About the conflicts and claims between the members of the Lichten Fels community who chose us the Beis Din signed below to discuss the collection of money for the new building of the synagogue and an apartment for the prayer leader which they want to build and the division of seats in the synagogue… Hamburg, 1755 … we have decided on a Psak Din to show them the way… to prevent separation and controversy among them…"
